No phone in your hand, just clay on the wheel, an instructor keeping you on track, and a room full of people quietly making something together. It felt less like “a class” and more like a community space where everyone is rooting for your first little bowl to survive. Quick backstory: Potters Union was created by two Reston neighbors who wanted more studio space and flexibility in our area, so they built the kind of warm, home-like studio they wished existed. If you want to try it, their workshops are a great entry point. They are 3 hours, beginner friendly, and include clay, tools, glazing, and firings. Bonus: coffee, tea, and snacks while you work. ☕️ Your finished piece is typically ready for pickup about 4 to 5 weeks later. And yes, we had a “Ghost moment.” If you have never seen it, Ghost is a classic 1990 movie with a famous pottery wheel scene between Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. I was struggling, the instructor leaned in to help, and suddenly it felt very cinematic for about three seconds. greaterrestonliving This might be the best smelling hallway in all of Reston. 😄📍 Tucked inside 11495 Sunset Hills Rd (Suite 101), Dano’s Granola is a woman owned, Reston grown spot that lives up to its slogan, “baked with love.” We got a behind the scenes tour of their baking kitchen and watched the full process from mixing and baking to packaging and sealing every bag. And it goes way beyond granola. You’ll find deeply nourishing oatmeal, granola butter in unique flavors, and rocher-style “granola flavor bombs” that feel like a sweet treat but still keep the ingredients clean and thoughtful. 🍯🥣 The story is just as local as the flavor. Dania, the owner, grew up in Reston, went to Reston schools, and taught art at South Lakes High School. She started the business when her son needed to eat gluten-free, and she wanted to make sure he still had food that was nutritious and actually delicious. She uses top quality organic and local ingredients and even partners with other Reston favorites like River Sea Chocolate. 🍫 Also worth noting, Dano’s is a Good Food Awards winner in the snack category. greaterrestonliving FFXnow reports that the planned Puttshack indoor mini-golf spot at Reston Station is officially on hold, and it’s because that long-reserved space is being absorbed into Booz Allen Hamilton’s expanded headquarters footprint at Reston Row. (Comstock says the lease means Puttshack won’t be moving forward at Reston Station “for now,” but they’re still in talks to potentially find an alternate location within the project.) This one stings a bit for anyone hoping for a new “night-out” option near Wiehle-Reston East: Puttshack’s concept pairs tech-infused mini golf with a restaurant, and a Reston outpost would’ve been its first in the D.C. region. The good news: Comstock says they’re still curating more retail, dining, and entertainment, and more openings are still on the way around Reston Row. greaterrestonliving Dreaming of a European Christmas market but staying close to home this year? 🎄✨ The Herndon WinterMarkt brings that old world charm right to historic downtown Herndon, just a quick drive from Reston and Herndon neighborhoods we all know so well. On Saturday, December 13, 2025, Lynn Street and the area around the Herndon Municipal Center turn into a German style holiday market from 12 to 7 pm, with free admission and a cozy, small town feel. You will find handcrafted ornaments, woodworking, artwork, textiles, and plenty of holiday food and drinks, including German inspired favorites and, of course, Glühwein and hot chocolate. Families get live music, a visit from St. Nick, and a Kinder Corner for the kids. Parking is simple too: park at Herndon High School and hop on the free shuttle straight into downtown so you can skip circling for a spot. Events like this are a big part of what makes living in Reston and Herndon feel special. You can spend the afternoon shopping local, warming up with something festive to drink, then head back home in just a few minutes.
