greaterrestonliving Rails to River Trail is one of the best afternoon hikes near Reston, and most people have never heard of it. Graham and I are always looking for a new loop on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when we want to get out without driving far. This one starts right at the picnic grounds at Lake Fairfax Park and follows Colvin Run out through the woods along what’s called the Rails to River Trail. The trail itself is gentle, not much elevation change, so it works really well with kids. You still feel like you’re properly out in the great outdoors even though you’re just a few minutes from home. ⛰️ About halfway through, you reach Route 7 near Carpers Farm Way. There’s an underpass that takes you under the highway without dealing with traffic, and from there you can either continue toward Great Falls Park or take the detour to Colvin Run Mill. The mill is the whole reason to make this trip. It’s a fully preserved, working mill and homestead from the 1800s, and the general store on site is a perfect mid-hike stop for a snack and a water refill. 🌿 Plan on two to three hours depending on how long you linger. Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse is taking over that former Matchbox outdoor space and transforming it into a dedicated al fresco bar and dining experience overlooking Comstock’s plaza. We reached out directly to confirm: despite any rumors you may have heard, Davio’s is not going anywhere. They’re expanding. 🍸 The Plaza Bar seats 76 guests with 16 seats at the bar itself, six TVs, lounge seating, and a cocktail program built around seasonal drinks and premium wines. The food menu pulls from Davio’s signature dishes, all designed to be enjoyed outside. The location is right across from the new JW Marriott Reston Station, which makes it one of the better spots in Northern Virginia for an after-work drink or a relaxed weekend evening out. And if you haven’t made it to a Summerbration concert on the plaza on a Friday evening, this gives you a pretty compelling reason to start. Cold drink, open air, live music. Residents have a completely separate entrance and lobby. You never share space with hotel guests, and the 25th floor is a private lounge level for owners only, with a bar, boardroom, fitness center, outdoor grilling areas, and a rooftop dog park with views toward Tysons and Reston Town Center. ⠀ The service side is what sets this apart from a conventional condo building. There’s a 24/7 concierge, valet parking, and an à la carte menu that includes in-residence dining, a personal chef, grocery shopping, dog walking, and dry cleaning. Ownership also comes with elite status in the Marriott Bonvoy program. ⠀ We walked two units on camera, a two-bedroom and a two-bedroom plus den, and both were noticeably roomier than the square footage suggests. Ten-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, and quartzite countertops throughout. This past April, a combined penthouse here sold for $10.25 million, breaking Virginia’s previous condo record by nearly four and a half million dollars. 🏆 ⠀ Two-bedrooms start just over $1.6 million, and roughly two-thirds of the 93 units are still available.
